Egyptian visual artist Nadia Sirry has been awarded first prize at the fifth International Art Biennale in Ecuador.

The winning work, The Nile River, is composed of two oil paintings: The Eternal Nile and The Nile flood.

Egyptian ambassador to Ecuador Medhat El-Meligy and his wife both attended the award ceremony, which took place at the People’s Assembly hall.

Upon receiving the prize from the president of the Biennale and the head of the judges committee, Sirry dedicated her prize to Egypt and the Egyptian people.

The fifth edition of the Biennale saw the largest participation in the festival’s history, bringing together 180 artists from 22 different countries. As a result of the large number of participants, the Biennale was divided into two sections: oil paintings, and installations and graphics.

Egyptian artist Shadi Adeeb participated in the second section and was also commended for his work.
